In 1973, photographer Brian Duffy was shooting David Bowie for the cover of his album "Aladdin Sane" when inspiration struck. Duffy showed Bowie a Panasonic rice cooker his mother had given him; its logo was a red flash. He then took a red lipstick and drew the now famous lightning bolt across Bowie’s face. When Duffy asked Bowie what the album was to be called, Bowie replied “A Lad Insane”. Duffy misunderstood and Aladdin Sane was born.
